ReadGenie Supports Massachusetts Early Literacy Requirements
Massachusetts requires twice-yearly literacy screening, a documented response for every student who falls significantly below benchmarks, and, under the new 2026 law, evidence-based reading curricula statewide. ReadGenie helps your educators deliver the supplementary, evidence-based practice those requirements call for.
Screening Has Been Live Since 2023. The 2026 Law Raises the Bar on What Happens Next.
Massachusetts districts have screened every K-3 student at least twice a year since the 2023-2024 school year under 603 CMR 28.03(1)(f). When a student falls significantly below benchmarks, the school must decide, and document, how the general education program will respond, including supplementary evidence-based reading instruction with ongoing progress monitoring, and inform families within 30 school days.
The new early literacy law signed by Governor Healey in 2026 goes further: evidence-based K-3 curricula statewide by 2027-2028, codified dyslexia screening protocols, annual public reporting, and a required plan proposed to families when a student falls behind. Every one of those requirements creates the same operational question: who delivers the additional structured, corrective practice, and how do educators see what happened? ReadGenie was built for that gap. Your educators choose the skill, ReadGenie generates aligned decoding, spelling, word reading, and decodable passage practice, students practice with corrective feedback, and educators get evidence back before the next session.

Where ReadGenie Fits, Honestly
ReadGenie is:
Supplemental, skill-aligned independent practice for students receiving Tier 2/3 reading intervention. The educator selects the skill, students practice with corrective feedback, and educators get evidence before the next session.
ReadGenie is not:
A universal screener, a K-3 core curriculum, or a replacement for your intervention program, your reading specialists, or special education services. Massachusetts screening requirements are met by the DESE-approved instruments your district selects, and curriculum requirements by the evidence-based program your district adopts; ReadGenie sits alongside those choices as practice capacity for the students screening identifies.
How Massachusetts Districts Fund ReadGenie
Districts typically fund ReadGenie through existing allocations, no competitive application required.
Title I, Part A
Supports supplemental reading practice for struggling readers in schoolwide and targeted assistance programs. ReadGenie adds practice capacity that displaces no existing expenditure.
IDEA Part B and CEIS
Supports students with IEPs working toward reading goals, and the 15 percent CEIS set-aside can serve Tier 2/3 students not yet identified for special education. Student-level usage data supports CEIS tracking and reporting.
State Literacy Investments
Massachusetts is investing in early literacy through free curriculum, professional development, and implementation supports under the 2026 law. Districts can pair those state supports with supplemental practice for the students screening identifies.
Title II-A and Title IV-A
Title II-A can support the sustained educator data-use training that accompanies implementation. Title IV-A can fund licenses under the effective use of technology priority.
Allowability determinations rest with your district’s federal programs office. A vendor-prepared allowable use memo and ESSA Tier 4 evidence statement are available on request.
