Effective Date: February 2, 2025
Last Updated: January 25, 2026
Audience: Parents and Legal Guardians (“Parents”)
This Privacy Policy explains how ReadGenie App (“ReadGenie,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you or your child use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the “Service”).
Parent / Guardian: A child’s legal parent or guardian who creates or manages the account.
Child: A minor using the Service under a Parent’s direction.
Personal Information: Information that identifies, relates to, describes, or could reasonably be linked with an individual or household.
Voice Data / Audio: Voice recordings and/or derived data (such as transcripts) created when a child reads aloud in the app.
This Policy applies to information collected through the Service. It does not apply to third-party websites/apps you may access via links in the Service.
We collect information from (a) Parents, (b) Children’s use of the Service, and (c) devices used to access the Service.
A. Information you provide (Parent/Guardian)
We may collect: Parent/Guardian full name; email address; relationship to the child; and support communications (emails, messages, or calls).
B. Information collected through the child’s use of the Service
We may collect: voice data / audio recordings created when the child reads aloud; derived data from audio, such as transcripts or pronunciation/reading performance signals (if generated); educational progress and tutoring performance data (e.g., lesson completion, accuracy, attempts, error patterns); and in-app interactions and preferences (e.g., chosen activities, engagement metrics).
C. Automatically collected device and usage information
Depending on device settings and how you use the Service, we may collect: app activity and usage logs (feature usage, session duration, crash reports); device information (device type/model, operating system version, app version); approximate location inferred from IP address (generally at city/region level) for security, fraud prevention, and basic analytics; and operational logs and metrics (e.g., system activity logs, performance metrics, and diagnostic information), which may be processed and stored using our cloud infrastructure provider (AWS).
We do not require children to provide their real name, address, or phone number to use core learning features.
We use personal information to: provide, maintain, and improve the Service; customize learning content and difficulty to the child’s needs; analyze audio recordings to deliver tutoring feedback and improve reading support features; generate educational progress reports for Parents; communicate with Parents about the account, child progress, updates, and support requests; monitor, prevent, and address technical issues, bugs, security incidents, and fraud; and comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
ReadGenie is designed to be used by children only under a Parent’s supervision and with Parent consent.
Parental consent: By creating an account and enabling your child to use the Service, you consent to our collection and use of your child’s information as described in this Policy.
No selling of children’s data: We do not sell children’s personal information.
Parental rights: Parents can review, delete, or stop further collection of a child’s personal information (see Section 10).
If you believe a child has provided information without appropriate consent, contact us so we can take steps to delete it.
When your child uses features that involve reading aloud: the app may record audio of your child’s voice; we may process that audio to create transcripts and/or reading-performance signals to provide feedback and generate progress reports; and we use audio/derived outputs to operate and improve the learning experience.
We do not use audio to attempt to identify a child as a unique individual outside of providing the Service (for example, we do not use voice for identity verification), unless you explicitly enable such a feature in the future and we update this Policy accordingly.
We share personal information only as needed to run the Service and comply with the law.
A. Service Providers (Processors)
We may share information with vendors who process data on our behalf under contractual obligations to protect it and use it only for providing services to us. This includes: Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) (cloud hosting, database/storage, and operational logging, monitoring, and metrics); OpenAI, LLC (for audio/transcript or tutoring-related processing as applicable); and SpeechSuper.com (for speech analysis as applicable).
These providers are authorized to access personal information only as needed to perform services for us and are required to protect it.
B. Legal and Safety
We may disclose information if we believe it is necessary to: comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental requests; protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or ReadGenie; or investigate and prevent fraud or security issues.
C. Business Transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to standard confidentiality protections.
We do not sell personal information. We also do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising / targeted advertising based on third-party tracking across apps and websites.
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to: provide the Service and maintain your account; support educational progress features (e.g., progress history); comply with legal obligations and resolve disputes; and enforce agreements.
Audio/voice data: We retain voice recordings only as long as necessary for the purposes described above, unless a longer retention period is required by law or you request deletion sooner.
We may retain de-identified or aggregated information (which cannot reasonably identify a child or Parent) for analytics and product improvement.
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information, including encryption in transit and encryption at rest where appropriate. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to: access the personal information we have about you and your child; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion of you and/or your child’s information; withdraw consent and stop further collection/processing (where applicable); obtain a copy of information you provided to us (data portability, where applicable); and opt out of certain processing (where applicable).

To protect children, we may need to verify the requester’s identity and relationship to the child before fulfilling a request. After verification, we will respond within a reasonable time and, where required by law, within the legally mandated timeframe.
Deletion timeline: Upon receiving a verified deletion request, we will delete the data within 30 days, unless retention is required by law.
A. California (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you may have the right to request: the categories of personal information collected and disclosed; the specific pieces of personal information collected; deletion and correction; and information about our “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You may exercise rights via the contact methods in Section 10. You will not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
B. EEA/UK (GDPR) – if applicable
If you are located in the EEA/UK, we process personal information under one or more of these legal bases: performance of a contract (providing the Service); consent (especially for children’s data and certain processing); legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, product improvement) where not overridden by your rights; and legal obligation. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
We may process and store information in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. These locations may have different data protection laws than your region. Where required, we take steps designed to ensure appropriate safeguards for international transfers. Some of our service providers, including AWS, may process and store information in the United States and other jurisdictions where they operate data centers.
The Service may contain links to third-party sites or services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
We may update this Policy from time to time. If changes are significant, we will provide notice through the app and/or via email. The “Last Updated” date above indicates when the Policy was most recently revised.
